At Geetha eye hospital trained optometrists begin with a comprehensive eye examination to help you get the best fit, and also teach you how to use and maintain contact lenses. The choice of contact lenses is based on the clinical findings of your doctor, lifestyle and personal preferences of the patient.
The contact lenses available are :
1.Soft contact lenses.
2. Standard Contact lenses: Available as spherical lenses and toric lenses which can be used every day for about 8 hours and should be replaced every year.
3. Disposable contact lenses: These latest generation lenses are available as spherical and toric contact lenses which can be disposed as either quarterly, monthly, fortnightly, weekly or on a daily basis.
4. Cosmetic contact lenses: As the name suggests, these lenses are worn to enhance cosmetic appearance by changing the eye color.
5. Semi-soft contact lenses: When a person is intolerant to soft contact lenses due to allergy or under correction of high astigmatism, he will be advised to wear semi-soft contact lenses. These lenses are specially designed to match the patient's corneal contour thereby resulting in a shaper and clearer vision.
GLAUCOMA
The optic nerve carries information from the eye to the brain, and is located in the back of the eye. Glaucoma is the name given to a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve. It is characterized by progressive damage to the optic nerve of the eye, the most common cause being increased pressure in the eye. In fact glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. At first, patients lose side (peripheral) vision. But if the disease is not treated, vision loss may worsen, leading to total blindness over time.
The most common forms of Glaucoma are:
1. Open angle glaucoma
2. Angle closure glaucoma
The treatment depends on accurate and early detection and success depends on severity of the disease at presentation. Glaucoma patients don’t experience any symptoms and are unaware of vision loss until severe damage has occurred. On rare occasions, acute rise in eye pressure occurs and needs immediate medical attention. Glaucoma can be treated as well as controlled but cannot be completely cured. However if left untreated, it can lead to permanent blindness. Most forms of this illness are progressive and need long term care. At Geetha eye hospital, we provide the latest tools for the diagnosis of glaucoma. We are equipped with the latest lasers and machinery used for the surgical management of glaucoma.
RETINA AND VITREOUS
Geetha eye hospital offers comprehensive services for diagnosing and treating various retinal disorders. Our retinal specialist makes use of the latest equipment to detect retinal conditions such as Diabetic retinopathy and Age related macular degeneration amongst others. At Geetha eye hospital, we realize that ophthalmology is increasingly becoming an equipment-based practice. Good results not only depend on excellent surgical skills but also on the capabilities of the instruments and machines used, which is why we continue to invest in the latest that technology has to offer.
a) Diagnostic procedures
1. Fundus Photography - Allows doctors to procure color photographs of the back of the eye.
2. Fluorescein Angiography (FFA) - This is a diagnostic procedure that photographs blood circulation of the retina. The process involves injection of a dye called Fluorescein into a vein in the arm or hand.
3. Visual Field Analysis - This procedure allows measurement of the full extent of the area visible to an eye that is fixating straight ahead.
b) Surgical procedures
Intravitreal injections have brought forth a new era in the treatment of Age related macular degeneration , Diabetic maculopathy and other retinal vascular disorders. Injections of Lucentis(Ranibizumab), Avastin (Bevacizumab),Macugen( Pegaptinib Sodium)and Ozurdex(Steroid implant) are given as an outpatient procedure.
Micro incision and sutureless (23/25 gauge) vitrectomy(MIVS) is performed. The advantages of this surgery is the absence of stitches in the eye; hence the post-operative recovery is faster. The surgeries performed under the care of Geetha eye hospital include
Scleral Buckling - Vitrectomy for retinal detachments, epiretinal membrane, macular hole, vitreomacular traction, vitreous hemorrhage, parasitic cysts, dislocated nucleus, dislocated intra ocular lens - Vitrectomy for diabetic retinal detachment - Scleral fixated IOLs
