PRIYA ORTHOPAEDIC CENTRE

 

About the doctor :

EDUCATION       Dr. S. Sundararajan completed his MBBS from Stanley Medical College, Chennai in 1982. After undergoing training in orthopaedic department of Madurai Medical College, Madurai, he joined Diploma course in Orthopaedics there. He completed his D. Ortho in 1985. Continuing his orthopaedic work in Madurai under Prof Dr. A. Devadas for one year, he competed for his M. S. Orthopaedic course. He came out as first in state in the entrance exam and underwent the course in the famous Kilpauk medical college, Chennai under the famous professors Prof. P. V. A. Mohandas, Prof. K. Sriram and Prof. P. Dhanarajan. He came out successfully once again as a rank holder in 1988.

TRAINING  :        

He joined Prof Dr. A. Devadas at Madurai again and pursued his career as a registrar under him for nearly 16 months before starting his own practice at Udumalpet, his father’s place in May 1989 at Priya Orthopaedic clinic. He went to Switzerland in 1990 and Austria in 1993 for training in modern techniques of fracture management as AO fellow. He also had trauma training in France in 1990.

 

PRIYA ORTHOPAEDIC CENTRE :

In 1997, the inpatient facility for his patients was started in the name of Priya Orthopaedic centre. It was inaugurated by Prof A. Devadas FRCS, FRCS, MCh in the presence of Dr. V. Gengusamy Naidu on 9-6-1997. The centre had 14 beds with full fledged orthopedic operating facilities including image intensifier and modern theater table and imported lights. Physiotherapy unit and pharmacy was also attached to it along with the x ray unit for the care of the injured patients.

It was later expanded to 35 beds including a 5 bed post surgical intensive care unit and more beds for patients. Ventilators were added. More facilities in the theatre were provided like laminar air flow and centralized oxygen and suction pipelines. Newer types of equipment were added regularly like Trauma Reconstruction System of Synthes, Compressed Air Drill of Synthes, horizontal autoclaves and LASER in physiotherapy. Joint replacement of hip and knee were done regularly. All types of fractures were managed effectively by the latest available cost-effective methods.

 

ACADEMICS  :    

From his post-graduation period, he was keen to present scientific papers in state conferences and to publish articles in the Tamil nadu Orthopaedic Journal. Later he also presented papers in national conferences and south zone conferences. His keen interest made him win the best paper award many times. He has been awarded the Prof T. K. Shanmugasundaram medal for best paper from rural centre four times and also the Prof. T. S. Xavier medal for best paper in hand surgery once.

Dr. Sundararajan also has made scientific paper presentations in international conferences of SICOT at Sydney, Australia and Guangzu, China. He was an invited speaker in American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons, at San Diego, U.S.A. in 2017.

Apart from these, he attends workshops, Continuing Medical Education programmes, seminars and conferences regularly and updates himself. He also delivers lectures as an invited faculty in these programmes as well as chairs sessions as a senior orthopaedic surgeon.

ORTHO ASSOCIATION:

Dr Sundararajan is a life member of Tamil Nadu Orthopaedic Association (TNOA) and Indian Orthopaedic Association (IOA). He is also a life member of National Association of Inter Locking Surgeons (NAILS), Indian Society for Surgery of Hand (ISSH) and World Orthopaedic Concern (WOC). He is also a Life member of Bombay Orthopaedic Society (BOS) and Coimbatore Orthopaedic Society (COS).

In 2009, Tirupur District Ortho Club was started and Dr Sundararajan was elected as its charter president. Under his presidentship, the club conducts a state level C. M. E. programme – TNOA Prof. T. K. S. midyear C. M. E for the first time at Tirupur in 2011. Under his able guidance, regular meetings are conducted among the orthopaedic surgeons at Tirupur, Udumalpet and Dharapuram to exchange views and update knowledge. He was also an executive committee member of Tamil Nadu Orthopaedic Association from 2010 to 2012. He was the organising secretary of the annual state conference of the Tamil Nadu Orthopaedic Association in 2016 which was conducted successfully at Ooty.

 

IMA  :

A life member of Indian medical Association Udumalpet branch from 1989, he occupied the posts of joint secretary and vice president before becoming the honorary secretary from 2008 to 2011. He is the President from January 2018. He is also a trusted member of the Udumalpet IMA trust and was its treasurer for 10 years. He has involved himself in all the activities of the branch in conducting camps, CME programmes, awareness programmes and fundraising programmes. He has also given awareness lectures in N.S.S. camps of schools and colleges as well as for the public.

 

 

ROTARY INTERNATIONAL 

A member of Rotary International from 1991, Dr. Sundararajan is a past president and past secretary of the Rotary Club of Udumalpet. Presently he is the advisor and executive secretary of Rotary club of Udumalpet Tejas. He participated in the polio corrective surgey camps of the Rotary International in Moradabad, Bijnor, Meerut, Musafarnagar, Firozabad, Hathras and Bareiley from 2001. He also took active part in the intercontinental medical camp in Uganda in 2002. He also received recognition awards from Rotary International presidents, PRIP. Rajendra Saboo, RIP. Richard King and RIP. William Boyd. He is a major donor contributing US$ 10000 and all his family members – his mother, wife, daughter and son are Paul Harris Fellows, each contributing US$ 1000 to the Rotary Foundation to do good in this world.
